Makoji holds a B.Sc. (Geology) and an M.Sc. (Sedimentary Geology), and has completed several short-termcourses in Business Management. He has been involved over the last two decades in the acquisition strategies and operational activities of oil and gas exploration and production in Nigeria and across WestAfrica. He is also focused on investments in the mining and mineral processing operations in Nigeria.

He is a member of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), the Nigerian Mining and Geoscience Society (NMGS) and the Society of Mining Engineers (SME)

His career spans from Shell Petroleum Nigeria Limited as a Well Site Operations Engineer, Dupont Nigeria Limited as an Operations Geologist, Conoco Energy Nigeria Limited as Manager of Geological Operations, where he took an early exit as Director of Government Affairs in 2002.

He established Energy Portfolio Managers (EPM) as an energy and petroleum advisory and consultancy firm focused on Nigerian and West African opportunities. EPM has successfully delivered a list of opportunitiesthrough its advisory and consultancy services to several clients in Nigeria and West Africa.

Makoji is a co-founder of Pillar Oil Limited, the operator of the onshore Igbuku Marginal field on OML 56. He also midwifed Gas Transmission & Power Limited (GTPL), the Operator of PSC OPL 905 in the AnambraBasin with a proven gas discovery.

In recent times, he established Akata Energy Limited and participated in the 2020 Nigeria Marginal field license round and was successful as a co-investor in PPL 251 Meta and PPL 272 Mahin fields, respectively

He actively participates in solid minerals consulting, exploration, mining, and mineral processing activities through the Onshore Frontiers Limited (OFL) Group and its subsidiaries. Also, through Premium Marbles and Granites Limited (PMG), he manufactures granite and marble tiles and slabs from quarries and factories located inNasarawa State, Nigeria. 

His hobbies include field trips, nature and the evolution of the earth.
